DOVIZI PRIZE

 

It is a prize founded in honour of the illustrious citizen Bernardo Dovizi, well known in the cultural world as “Cardinal Bibbiena” (1470-1520); he was the secretary of State under Pope Leone the 10th, man of letters and the author of "Calandria". This prize is awarded annually to people born in our territory who have distinguished themselvels operating in fields at national and international level.

 

 

According to Dovizi Prize regulations, every year, an appropriate commission indentify the winner after having examined all the possible candidacies indicated by Bibbiena citizens.

 Following Dovizi Prize meaning in order to increase the number of Bibbiena illustrious citizens prestigiously awarded in this way and of honorary citizens, the whole town should count on special collaboration for pointing out Dovizi Prize possible winners to the board of examiners.

1st Edition - year 1992

Mr Giovanni Giovannini

Giovanni Giovannini (Bibbiena 1920) , worked as journalist for the daily paper "La Stampa" for all his life,  there he was editor,  special correspondent, assistant editor, managing director  and president (from the 10th february  1976 to the 1st  October 1982), director until 1999. From July 1976 to June 1996 he was the president of the Newspaper publishers Italian Federation. As special correspondent, he stayed in many countries and followed the greater international crisis in their crucial moments: from Congo to Nigeria, from Berlin to Santo Domingo, from Egypt to Algeria,  to Japan. In1968 he founded in Turin the Educational Centre on Journalism "Gino Pestelli". From May 1988 to May 1990 he has the president of the Newspapers Publishers International Federation. From April 1985 to July 1994 he was the president of the National Press Agency "ANSA". Since autumn 1983 he has been the president of the Superior School on journalism and communication inside the Free International Social Studies University (LUISS). In 1983 he founded the magazine "Media 2000"  and in 1996 "The Observatory Tutti Media". Among many books, he published a communication story entitled "Dalla selce al silicio". He is also ITEDI (Fiat group  and Publikompass financial company) manager. He is a Chevalier of the French Legion of Honour and  Italian Republic Big Cross knight..

 

Since the 2nd edition Dovizi Prize formula was broadened granting the honorary citizenship to a friend or a personality indicated by the prize winner for his indisputed professional worth and the prestigious assignments he has got.

 

 

2nd Edition - year 1994

Mr Gianpiero Taverna

 

Conductor Gianpiero Taverna (Bibbiena 1932) was Igor Markevitch's student in Salzburg and in Berlin (1955-56)  and Hermann Scherchen's assistant from 1956 to 1960. Since 1962 he has directed contemporary works in the main Festivals of Spoleto, Venice, Warsaw, Royan, Metz,  Flander Festival, Milan “Music in our time”, Parma, Paris, Berlin, Leon, New York, together with several “first nights”. From 1976 to 1979 he was Turin Royal Theatre Artistic Director,  from 1981 to 1987 he was the Artistic Director and permanent conductor of  Milan  “Musical Afternoons” orchestra. In 1982 he directed Turin RAI (Italian broadcasting corporation) Contemporary Music Group. He taught at Pesaro Conservatoire (from 1970 to 1976) and he hold the chair of Orchestra Direction in Milan Conservatoire “G. Verdi”. He wrote for many reviews and he was the musical critic for the daily papers "L'avanti" and "La Nazione".

 

M° Pier Luigi Pizzi

Stage Designer, costume designer and Italian Theatre director

He realized many stage designs and costumes for great succeefully plays. He obtained exceptional results in main theatres and stages all around the world. In collaboration with Master Pier Luigi Pizzi, Bibbiena District has promoted important initiatives:  shows, the settling up of the Stage designing and costume  Museum  and the Educational Centre.

3rd Edition - year 1995

Prof. Luigi Biggeri

 

Luigi Biggeri (Bibbiena 1939) has been economical statistics Professor since 1980 and Statistics Department Director from 1984 to 1990; he was the coordinator of the course on statistics  and actuarial sciences and on applied statistics search doctorate (PhD), at Florence University. He was the president of Italian Statistics Society (from 1996 to 2000, Faculty member from 1984 to 1988), member of the Commission for statistics Information guarantee (from 1993 to 1996) and president of the same (from 1996 to 1999); he was member of the International Statistical Institute Council (from 1987 to 1991) and its deputy president (from 1991 to 1993); he was MURST president, the National Observatory for University system evaluation (from 1996 to 1999); leader and scientific manager in several projects (FAO/ ITALY/CHINA), also for the organization and management of the 1st Chinese agricultural census (from 1987 to 2000). He published more than 100 scientific works in economical statistics field.

Prof. Alberto Zuliani
 ISTAT Ex President
Alberto Zuliani was named statistics extraordinary professor  in 1975, in Padua University faculty and then statistics professor  in Rome at the economy faculty  of "La Sapienza" University. He has been the president of the national statistics Institute since 1993 and of the guarantee commission for statistics information in 1992 and 1993. He was also the director of the Department for Government control at the Cabinet in 1981 and 1982; president of Commission for Finances evaluation system in 1980 and 1981;  International Statistical Institute ordinary member; Statistics Italian Society partner and president from 1988 to 1992;  economy, demography and statistics Italian Society partner. Italian statistical society journal editor in 1991 and 1992. He has made many searches and analysis on the organization of public administration. He is author of many publications.

M° Maurizio Scaparro

 Italian Theatre director

He started as director in 1964 at Bologna " Stabile" Theatre where he was also co-director. From 1969 to 1975 he directed Bolzano "Stabile" Theatre, then founding the Popular  theatre in Rome. From 1983 to 1990 he was the Artistic Director of Roman "Stabile" Theatre and in 1983 he was also associate Director with Strehler for Europe Theatre in Paris. In 1985 he was the Director of Los Angeles arts advanced searches Institute. He made many successful productions.
 

 

5th Edition - year 1997

Father Rinaldo Falsini

 

Father Rinaldo Falsini (Bibbiena 1924), after teaching Theology in Siena and Fiesole and being central assistant of  Milan Institution founded by F. Gemelli, was invited at Council opening and nominated  archivist and writer for the “Conciliar liturgy Commission” Secretary Office. For many years, he has been consultor in three  “Consilium” study groups, which is a pontifical organism made to carry out the liturgical reform arranged by the council. Liturgist theologian, he has worked as expert and member of Italian episcopacy organism in translators groups. Since 1974 he has been member of Pastoral Liturgic Musical and artistic National Council of Italian Episcopal Conference; in 1975 he founded the review "Testimoni nel mondo". Since 1985 he has been the editor of the "Vita Pastorale" review, co-director of the "Pastorale Liturgica",  theologian commentator of "Famiglia Cristiana" and "Jesus", and San Paolo Editions consultant. He wrote many articles in national and international magazines, Dictionaries words,  together with works in collaboration and monographic studies.
 

Cardinal Virgilio Noè 

 Saint Peter's Basilica Archpriest

 

His Eminence Cardinal Virgilio Noè has been teacher of ecclesiastical history, patrology, liturgy, art history, sacred art and has got numerous assignments: he was secretary of liturgic action centre CAL, papals ceremoniesmaster (since 1970);  gendarmerie chaplain, committee for family consultor, member of Holy Year 1975 central committee, then Divine Cult section secretary. In 1982 he was nominated Archbishop of Voncaria and secretary of the Divine Cult sacraments congregation; in 1989 he was appointed coadjutor of the patriarchal Saint Peter's Basilica Cardinal Archpriest in Vatican, Saint Peter Factory delegate and president of the standing commission for the protection of Holy See historical and artistic monuments. After his appointment as cardinal in 1991 he has received other important assignments.

Mr Giorgio Tellini

 

GiorgioTellini (Bibbiena 1937), has made his career in central Mediocredito S.p.a. : from 1966 to 1983 has been an official of  studies office,  General Direction technical assistant and Financial service Director;  central Director and general Director substitute (1992-‘93), General Director (1994), Mediocredito delegated Director since May 1994. In 1995 he was nominated Official Knight of the  “Italian Republic Reward” Order .
 

 

Honourable Lamberto Dini

Foreign Minister - 2nd Amato's Government

 

Lamberto Dini has been Foreign Minister in 2nd Amato's Government.  Since June 2001 he has been Senate deputy president and has covered this following assignments:  forth standing commission (Defence) member, Italian delegation in NATO assembly member.

Mr Massimo Massella Ducci Teri

Massimo Massella Ducci Teri  (Bibbiena 1949), State Lawyer has covered following assignments: Perugina University Administration Law Chair collaborator  (1977-1982), Cinema Autonomous board Management Director, manager of  State Bar collective body secretary,  State Bar general secretary manager,  Defence Minister (1983), legal advisor of Tourism and Show business Ministers (from 1984 to 1986), Urban Areas legislative office head (from 1987 to 1993), Labour and Social Security Minister Cabinet head (from 1993 to 1994), Regional affairs Minister Cabinet head (from 1994 to 1995), Labour and Social Security Minister Cabinet head (from January 1995), Transport and Navigation Minister Cabinet head.

Transport and Navigation Minister-  D'Alema and Amato's Government

 

He was a member of municipal and mountain Consortium borough from 1975 to 1980. From 1980 to 1990 he was an Emilia-Romagna Regional councillor with many assignments and functions. Region Deputy President since 1990 and since 1993 the president of Emilia-Romagna Region. In 1996 he joined Prodi's Government as Industry Minister. He was held his assignement in the first D'Alema Government. Finally he was Transport Minister in second D'Alema's Government and in Amato's Government.

Knight Giuseppe Baracchi

 

Giuseppe Baracchi is the founder of the local firm "Baraclit S.p.a." and its honorary president. In 1995, Giuseppe Baracchi with his wife Adele have founded a no-profit institution recognized as Moral Authority  called “Foundation Baracchi”. Its purpose is to develop artistic and cultural sensibility, pointing up human resources and local properties in addition to promoting social and philanthropic initiatives. In practice, up to now, the Foundation has organized activities with a direct management or in a joint one in more areas: classic and modern music concerts, theatrical shows, exhibitions, meetings, art restorations and many other initiatives.

 

Renzo Tian
Italian Theatre Authority Extraordinary Commissioner

He became editor for the "Messaggero" in 1955, and since 1959, for thirty-five years, he remained theatre column manager, not only  has he published show's reviews, but also  correspondent services, interviews and reports. From 1963 to 1975 he was the director of the Dramatic Art's National Academy. In 1970, at Bologna University, he joined the foundation of the first course in arts, music and show subjects (DAMS). From 1987 to 1998 he hold the chair of show critic Methodology in Rome Arts Faculty. He has got important assignments: he was president of theatre critics national association, deputy president of the international association des critiques du théatre (from 1977 to 1988), director with Strehler of the review "Théatre en Europe" (from 1984 to 1988) .He held many seminars, lessons and lectures in foreign universities also printing many writing and essays on French studies and  about theatre.

Andrea Sassoli

 

He is a Brianza steel trader and  the president of "Sassoli group-stainless steel Italy". Young mechanical expert, Andrea Sassoli started his career in Triplex purchasing office  in Solaro (Milan). After few years he was called in Fiat Industry, stainless steel sales Department. In 1974 he was nominated manager, then sales manager and finally business executive. He left his top-manager activity,  at the end of  eighties to undertake  the trading activity. Since 1996 his group has become the agent for the German colossus "Krupp".

 

Prof. Piero Barucci
University theacher ex Treasure and  Civil Service Minister

Piero Barucci has been president of "Monte dei Paschi di Siena" (1983-1990), and Italian Movable Institute Board member (1985-1990), the president of Italian International Bank of London (1983-1990), the president of the  Organization for monetary and financial studies “Luigi Einaudi” (1989-1991), Italian bank association president  (1987-1991), Mediobanca board member (1990-1992), Credito Italiano  managing director (1990-1992), IRI Board member (1987-2000), Director in credit, financial and insurance societies.

Mrs Flaminia Bussotti

 

Flaminia Bussotti, during her university and post-university period, has collaborated with many newspapers and reviews, carrying out many translations from German. She has stayed in many foreign countries. In 1979 she went to London to collaborate with Italian Bbc station. In 1980 she moved to Vienna with a foreign Affairs Minister study grant for graduates and in 1981 went to New York thanks to New York University in Germanic studies grant. She got another grant from Italian Newspapers Publishers Federation for a stage at “La Repubblica” review and at the italian associated press agency (Ansa).  In 1983 the journalist was worked at the Foreign newsroom of the Italian associated press agency (Ansa) in Rome. In 1987 she moved to Vienna where, as number two of the structure, she was also charged of  Czechoslovakia covering, following upheavals that have brought to the regime end. In 1990 she has been also nominated Vienna Office manager. From 1995 she moved to Berlin as office manager and as german structure deputy,  in those days,   the main seat was in Bonn. In 1998 she has been in charge with following political elections carring to Kohl's Government end and  Schroeder winning. Since 1999 she has been manager of Italian associated press agency (Ansa) in Germany, all moved to Berlin.

 

Prof. Giuseppe Vita

After a degree in medicine at "La Sapienza" University in Rome and a specialization in radiology at the same, Giuseppe Vita has been called at Magonza Gutenberg University radiology institute, from 1962 to 1963 as ordinary assistant; in 1964 he was took on by Berlin Schering AG (clinical searches), as world contrast medium experimentation manager. In 1965 he was nominated Milan Schering S. p. a. menaging director and then general manager. In 1987 he was a member and from 1989 to 2002 president of Berlin Schering AG executive committee, and then he became surveillance committee President in 2001. In the same year he was also nominated  "Ras S.p.a." board president. Vita has been also Work Knight since 1990, honorary president of Milan Deutsche Bank S.p.a.,  Hugo Boss AG and Axel Springer AG surveillance committee president, Techosp S.p.a. (Group Rocca) and Marzotto S.p.a. (Valdarno) board member..

 Doctor  Eugenia  Citernesi

Graduated in Florence in Papyrology with Professor Manfredo Manfredi, after a brief experience as archaeologist, since 1973 she has begun to work at Le Monnier publishing house, where she has attended to school books for a long time, especially of classic, humanistic area. She has joined the editorial staff that compiled the national edition of Ugo Foscolo’s works and U. Bosco and G. Reggio’s comments upon The Divine Comedy.  For more than twenty years she has been Le Monnier publishing house’s deputy editor for lexicographical editing, coordinating the various teams compiling  the revisions and new editions of The Devoto-Oli Italian language Dictionary, first together with Professor Gian Carlo Oli and then, since 2000, with Professor Luca Serianni and Professor Maurizio Trifone.  Since 2004 she has been Le Monnier’s editing director for which she has also published together with Andrea Bencini Words from the 90’s (1992) and Latinorum.  Contemporary Latin Dictionary (1997).

 Professor Luca  Serianni

(Italian language history full professor at La Sapienza University in Rome )  

Formed at Arrigo Castellani’s school, he has got the chair of Italian language history at La Sapienza University in Rome since 1980.  He is a Lincei Academy’s member, a member of Crusca Academy , a central councillor of Dante Alighieri Society in addition to the director of the Italian linguistic studies review and associate editor of Italian lexicography studies.  He has attended medieval Tuscan dialects (Aretino and Pratese: 1972 and 1977), he has studied the language matter of late XVIth century (Bargagli ‘s Turamino edition 1976) and many features about XIXth century linguistic history (Purists’ rule and the XIXth century used language, 1981; medicine language, Manzoni’s linguistic reform, Belli, Imbriani and other: essays on Italian linguistics history, 1989) about previous centuries he worked to Della Casa, Davanzati, Varano,  neoclassic poetic language, etc. and about the XXth century (Pasolini, Bellonci, the last D’Annunzio, contemporary magazines, Italian didactics). Finally he has made many publications.
